In addition to her work, Saskia Janssen (born in 1965) enjoys working as a painter. During her studies in Wageningen in the 1980s she started a drawing and painting course. She has been living in Maastricht since 1990 and works at Rijkswaterstaat. Over time, painting has become an increasingly important part of her life.

"Her subjects and styles are varied, but there is more and more a personal style and a preference for subjects. Often figurative with people, animals or landscapes, sometimes abstract.“Sometimes I am fascinated by a theme.
A few years ago they were portraits of old people. With the double portrait of Gebroeders Ramen, I successfully participated in the Painting of the Year 2017 art prize.Later I was intrigued by the French landscapes with large grain fields and a detached block-like building in it of such an agricultural cooperative. Moon sickles now appear regularly in the abstract paintings. No idea why, I just think they are a pretty strong form.
”Saskia works with acrylic paint on various surfaces. You can see works made with the palette knife, or by applying the paint in thin, translucent layers. Occasionally she processes other materials through the paint for a richer structure in the work.
If you want to know more about Saskia's work, you can look at her website www.sassefras.eu. The works here in the web store can also be ordered here, the processing is done directly through Saskia.
