Passion for music, color and movement
Marc Schoenmakers grew up in a musical family. His father Theo has been playing saxophone in a jazz band for decades and his mother is playing saxophone in a classical quartet. His two children also make music, his daughter plays the piano and meanwhile she sings the stars of heaven while his son is often jamming on his rock guitar. Marc himself also plays the guitar and in the past he even spelled and sang in a number of bands.
A few years ago this brought Marc Schoenmakers to the idea of creating a series of fresh paintings with music as their subject. The result was a series of as many as 50 canvases, many of which have already been sold over the years. Marc works with acrylic paint on linen or canvas and processes the paint with brushes and spatulas.
This dynamic series of paintings is slightly figurative and shows musicians and dancers. Marc's paintings can best be described as a loosely arranged line of lines in combination with bright colors that make the swinging figures stand out powerfully.
In addition to this figurative series, Marc Schoenmakers has also made many abstract paintings in recent years. He finds peace as he works on his abstract paintings because of complete freedom and ease. Marc loves to work as an artist alongside the figurative series on something that is totally different and in which he can let himself go completely.
