Ariënne Schakelaar

Stones have always had her attention, stones that Ariënne found on the beach or in nature. Where does the stone come from and what journey has the stone already traveled. Stone carvings and the architecture of old buildings also attract her attention.

She started sculpting in 2016.

Working with stones, which are millions of years old, fascinates her. Each stone is for a new challenge, what will the stone do. Sometimes Ariënne works from an image, which she has in her head and has sketched out in outline.
Another time she follows the shape of the stone and works further from that form. Ariënne also occasionally works from an assignment.

She works with different types of stone such as: soapstone, alabaster and serpentine.
